Greetings everyone! I am Gary Gum, a landscape, wildlife, and nature photographer based in Las Cruces, NM. I first became interested in photography during the 1980's as a travel nurse to capture the beauty of the local areas around the hospitals where I worked.
My love for classic cars and trucks, wildlife, church architecture, and old barns began as a child growing up on a farm in southern Illinois. I developed a love for southwest scenery, especially the beautiful sunrise and sunsets after moving to Arizona in the early 1980s. I attributes my eye for detail and subtle color changes to my training as a nurse. I use a variety of techniques in both taking and editing my photographs to achieve the uniqueness of my art.
My photography has been recognized by various prestigious organizations, including New Mexico Magazine, Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, Art Square Gallery of New York, Arizona Highways Magazine, Exhibizone, Gardenia 2024, and the New Mexico Cancer Center. I was honored to participated in the "Art of Healing" exhibition at the New Mexico Cancer Center in 2020-2021.
