Craig Calsbeek
A native of Los Angeles, Craig Calsbeek is a graduate from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and has worked actively in Illustration and Graphic Design for over 25 years.

Before forming Santa Monica based Nexus Design + Marketing Inc., Craig started out as a freelance illustrator commissioned by a formidable roster of consumer publications and book publishers for years. He also served as a freelance Graphic Designer and Art Director for many National Advertising Agencies, Book Publishers and Entertainment companies. He has created award-winning illustrations, corporate identities, promotions, direct mail, print ads, press relations campaigns, POP materials, direct response campaigns, annual reports, collateral materials of all sizes and shapes, and billboards. Craig currently works for a mix of large and small companies. He also does pro bono work for many worthwhile charitable organizations.

Some of Craig's favorite activities include family activities with his wife and 3 kids, movies, jazz music, cars, golf, gardening and a passion for collecting retro toy collectibles.

Yvette Robinson
Yvette Robinson grew up in Arizona and currently lives in Kansas. She started drawing in the 4th grade. She started with animals and TMNT. In 6th grade she decided to try her luck with people. That is when she started to get into comics like, X-Men and the like. She started painting around 8th grade with oil, then eventually moved to acrylic cause of dry time. In 9th grade she got to ink a comic of a local artist called "Locke & Load". She currently works as a graphic artist at a locally owned business in Kansas. She continues to paint and draw. - Most of what is being uploaded now is older stuff. New stuff coming soon!

About the Artist

Paintings by John Lautermilch
John Lautermilch is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. His interest in art began in early childhood, and by the age of eight, he began painting. John won his first art show while still in elementary school, and by the time he was in high school, his art was being displayed and sold in local restaurants.

After high school, John attended the School of Fine Arts at Washington University on a scholarship. The year he graduated, his work was accepted by the St. Louis Art Museum for exhibit in their annual show.

Throughout his career, John has won numerous awards and prizes in various art shows. He has also done many commissioned works both for individual collectors and institutions, including a series of paintings for a Lutheran organization in St. Louis. He held an exhibit of water lily paintings at the Missouri Botanical Garden and is now represented at Componere Art Gallery in St. Louis.

Artist Statement
I am fascinated by the color, light patterns, and variety found in nature–particularly with respect to water lilies. One can spend a life time and never come close to capturing the beauty and tranquility found in the natural world. I feel blessed to have the time to look so deeply into the life around me and hope to share that feeling with you through my paintings.

BE MERLIN

Description

I've always been fascinated by Merlin and by the story of King Arthur. One day, sitting in a friend's kitchen in Dublin, Ireland, this sonnet came to me fully formed. The merlin is also a hawk (sometimes called the "pigeon hawk").

The artist, Charles Grignion the Elder, was a British engraver and draughtsman.

Grignion was born in London to Huguenot refugees. He was a prolific historical engraver and book illustrator.

Not to be confused with his nephew Charles Grignion the Younger, who was born in 1754. The nephew, in turn, became a history and portrait painter.

The Internet Bard
I am a poet, playwright, and musician. My sonnets and other verse have appeared in the NY Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and in other newspapers and in small press magazines.

It has long been my belief that individual poems can and perhaps should be displayed as works of art. When I discussed this idea with my friend of many years, Andrew Unangst, he offered to pair some of my efforts with his photography. I was delighted with the results. So, we have launched this e-gallery.

At one time, Andrew Unangst was considered the most successful photographer in New York City. His photos have appeared everywhere, including the cover of Time magazine. His portraits of Andy Warhol and Stephen King are famous. One graces the cover of Warhol's Diaries.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Unangst Studio became a salon for superstar talents. In addition to King and Warhol, authors Ira Levin, Peter Straub, Terry Southern and others were fixtures. Painter Larry Rivers was a regular, as was movie director Oliver Stone. Photographer Peter Beard camped out so long he started receiving his mail there. I was the house poet. It was a scene, and now it's an amazing memory for those of us still living.

The wall art in this e-gallery is unique! Who else is offering poems paired with pictures? We use the minimum pricing suggested by Artpal.com for the unsigned prints. After fees and so forth, we split a little less than 20% of the purchase price on most items. We want you to have something of ours hanging in your home or place of business. That's as important as money.

However, we do get 100% of the sales price on our limited edition signed prints. So, serious art collectors (and manuscript collectors? ) please take note! Also, when a signed limited edition sells out (9 numbered pieces), we will discontinue sales of ALL versions of that poetry print, increasing the value for everyone.

I believe these sonnets (and other poetry, eventually) can inspire and entertain you, perhaps more than a wordless work of art. Hopefully, we bring some light to the world, provoke a smile or chuckle, or reveal new avenues for thought or meditation. How many other wall hangings do that?

Each piece is different. We will be delighted when you choose one that suits your taste. Every piece is a conversation starter, for sure!

10% of any and all money paid to us will be donated to our favorite charity: St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Many of the pieces here will include my sonnets and Unangst's art compositions and photographs. Some include art from the public domain paired with a poem. Andrew Unangst also does the art direction and design for all the pieces.

Most of my sonnets are written with a unique rhyme scheme developed by me. The first 12 lines rhyme towards the middle couplet, with a couplet at the end. The NY Times was the first place my poetry was published, in 1978. It was the sonnet Envelope Full of Champagne. Unangst is working on the artwork and layout so we can offer it here. For the next 9 years, until 1987, my sonnets and haiku and other light verse frequently appeared in the Times.

Reputation is everything in the world of art. Poets are always decades ahead of visual artists. This means the long-term value of these works is enhanced exponentially. Whether you buy one of our limited edition prints for thousands of dollars or make a less expensive choice, you can rest assured that you are purchasing an heirloom-quality artwork that will increase in value as it is passed from generation to generation.

About the Artist

Peter Gray
Hi there, I'm Peter Gray, a self-taught artist based in Co. Fermanagh, Ireland. My preferred medium is acrylic, and my journey into art began when I was seventeen years old. I vividly recall my first painting experience, which occurred when my art teacher took a chance on me and allowed me to join the final years' art class despite having no prior experience in any art class.
Although I quickly discovered that I was only average at most art forms, I hadn't yet found my passion. That all changed when my teacher presented me with a set of acrylic paints and asked me to create a painting within a week. I eagerly accepted the challenge, and the following week, I proudly presented my first-ever painting, which depicted the legendary jazz singer Ray Charles seated at a polished black piano in a dimly lit, smoky room.
To my surprise, my teacher loved the piece, which gave me the confidence to keep painting. Although I initially painted in my spare time and sold pieces here and there over the next decade, I focused most of my energy on activities I believed were essential for a successful and stable life. However, I eventually realized that this was merely an illusion.
Therefore, I made the decision to step back from that way of life and pursue my passion for painting full-time, immersing myself entirely in the world of creative thinking.

That Peaceful Feelin'

Ah, wouldn't we all like to be relaxing by the ocean right now? The sound of the softly rolling waves and the seagulls soaring, the smell of the salty water, the gentle breeze making your hair dance and float...so very peaceful. But even if we can't physically be on a tropical beach at the moment, we can rest this peacefully in the presence of Jesus, because He is the Prince of Peace! He is the Rest that we all long for. He is Home. Run into the arms of the Savior and be wrapped up in His peace today, y'all!

My name is Sam Oak. I was born in 1998.

I started my journey in art by drawing portraits. People fascinated me and always have. That's what my art is about, the people I know, the people I've met.
In recent years, I've dedicated myself to writing songs so I could put those same thoughts into words. Now I mix them together. Every painting you will see here has a song attached to it.
That's how the world goes by to me, the memories. A lot of things may be forgotten, but there's always an image and a sound at the back of my mind that reminds me of what it felt like. Of what emotions drowned me that day, with that person.

The world is a mess and we all find a way to escape and make our own tiny corner a little more beautiful.

It is strange how fascinating old things are- old wood, old metal, craquelure cobweb of old varnish ... the way time worked on them. Perhaps as proof that Time is material, and has value in itself.
Once, looking at the massive hundred-year-old board from the old house, I imagined all those works on the wood panels, from icons to painting, which we never saw, that left, disappeared, lost in time. How could they look like? Then I came to idea to make such a thing, looking like a found artifact, with fragments of old painting on ancient piece of wood. So I have created it, and continue working now..
Additional technical education helps to find new and new technological solutions, and now every work is physically unique, because of the uniqueness of the key element - old wood, and because of the peculiarities of the process. Nowadays, when so many people are interested in medieval style, fantasy and pseudo-historical stories- from The Lord of the Rings to the Game of Thrones, such kind of works are interesting, aren’t they? Such as they could be, if they existed in reality and reached our days..
I'm always in search- of new approaches, new materials, sometimes with elements of old metal, and other. Sometimes I copy works of old masters, to be closer to the subject, but when I miss bright and clear colors - I relax, working in traditional painting..

January 2020, ended my working career at the wonderful "Snow Business", a special winter effects company. My workshop windows looking over the 300 year old mill pond and yonder Stroud valley hills. Happy days.
Now retired, with time on my hands, I’ve dipped my toe in to the multimedia world and I’d like to show you what I’ve been creating during these lockdown times.

Digital Collages. Created from comic covers, vintage ads, newspaper headlines and a little bit of magic. Once the hundred plus layers are merged in to one image, the master copy. I tweak the master to make numerous unique variations.

Comic Strips. “Peanus with Dick & Willie”
Reworked from my two page cartoon scripts, titled "Willie", published in "Smut" an alternative comic. Willie was voted one of the top 3 characters, in readers’ polls, had the top selling T-shirts and his own 64 page special.

Darwin Leon was born in 1972 in Santiago de las Vegas a small town in Havana, Cuba. In 1987, Leon's family sought refuge from the political and economical crisis in Cuba, and departed to Spain, then later continued to the United States to settle in Miami. Leon earned his Bachelors in Fine Arts from Miami International University of Art & Design, where he attended as a recipient of the 'Visual Arts Scholarship Award of Excellence' and received Best in Show at his first Juried Student Exhibition. His first direction was expressed through religious portraits. However, he found a greater enthusiasm for figurative and expressionistic forms in which he incorporated satire and irony through surrealism and cubism. Leon's work is energetic, fresh, alive and abundant with color.

Leon's art combines aspects of the masters of the Renaissance, including the technique of chiaroscuro, with his own surreal style, which he refers to as Expressionistic Surrealism. Scenic images portray the nature of expressive design through the movement of action and textured aspects. With a sharp sense of humor and figurative imagination, Darwin Leon details the social context of pseudo-political, human involvement with a gift for enhanced form and characterization. Displaying the imbalances of society with a satirical perspective, his artistic creations animate the discontinuities of the post industrial order. Leon's paintings play on the interpersonal deceptions that move a society.

For four years, Darwin Leon was an Arts Instructor for drawing, painting, anatomy and modern painting at the South Florida Arts Center, Miami Beach. He currently resides with his wife and two children in Bradenton, Florida, where he teaches 'The Dynamic Human Figure' at the Art Center there and at the Carrollwood Cultural Center in Tampa, Florida.

'I believe in revising classical methods of art to create a more contemporary form of expression. My art mirrors life and the social issues of our time, while revealing the historical aspects of humanity that continue to govern and motivate us even today. In my work, the human figure is the constant denominator drawing on classical interpretation and moving into surrealism that symbolizes the echo of human nature and motivation through time. With a foundation for serious commentary, I employ the levity of humor so that people can grasp the meaning without feeling too challenged by the message.'
