It is strange how fascinating old things are- old wood, old metal, craquelure cobweb of old varnish ... the way time worked on them. Perhaps as proof that Time is material, and has value in itself.
Once, looking at the massive hundred-year-old board from the old house, I imagined all those works on the wood panels, from icons to painting, which we never saw, that left, disappeared, lost in time. How could they look like? Then I came to idea to make such a thing, looking like a found artifact, with fragments of old painting on ancient piece of wood. So I have created it, and continue working now..
Additional technical education helps to find new and new technological solutions, and now every work is physically unique, because of the uniqueness of the key element - old wood, and because of the peculiarities of the process. Nowadays, when so many people are interested in medieval style, fantasy and pseudo-historical stories- from The Lord of the Rings to the Game of Thrones, such kind of works are interesting, aren’t they? Such as they could be, if they existed in reality and reached our days..
I'm always in search- of new approaches, new materials, sometimes with elements of old metal, and other. Sometimes I copy works of old masters, to be closer to the subject, but when I miss bright and clear colors - I relax, working in traditional painting..

My desire to become an artist likely stems from a combination of innate passion, personal experiences, and a deep-seated need for self-expression. From a young age, I have felt a natural inclination towards creative expression, finding joy and fulfillment in activities like drawing, painting, or sculpting. Becoming an artist could be a way for me to explore and define my sense of self. Creating art allows me to communicate my unique perspective and worldview, shaping my identity as an individual.

Description

Best grapes from my garden: pink ones and dark muscat grapes, both were so delicious this year, as summer was like a gift giver, it started in May and ended only in mid September.
But those grapes were on our home table already in August, which was not the case years before. Small cherry tomatoes came from the greenhouse of the neighbor, who brought them to us. They all looked so beautiful, that I decided to stop the time with them on this nice Ducth plate.

My name is Enn Kaljo, I am from Estonia. I am painting since my very young age, drawing pictures came first, then learning to write letters and read them.
I started to earn with my paintings since I was around 24 years old. And I had one period of my life where painting was my source of income for almost a decade.
Now I have been retired from some works and I decided to return back to my gift that I have since birth, using photography and travels in many countries to help to create these pieces of art.
I have been working as a book translator and have been translating 14 books, most of them spiritual ones.
Currently I am also very proud about my skills of gardening and what I have learned in that field. It helps to witness wonders of Nature and what God has created there.
Turning select photos into pieces of art was always my dream. As technology advances, this has become possible and here it is, before you now, in different dimensions.

Oh My Darlin'

 

Description

The original is a small 5 x 7 inch watercolor. I do not recommend a large print for this.

I tried to capture the beauty of the light shining on and through the clementine. I believe I did capture some of the translucent quality.

I have the most experience with watercolor, but I keep experimenting with other mediums. I love sunlit surfaces, reflected light, shadows and contrasts. I also enjoy depicting weathered textures, trees and old structures.

I have won some awards over the years and been accepted into juried shows, but I have mostly neglected this pursuit in favor of raising a family, working a day job and selling paintings.

David Zimmerman was born in Washington, D.C. in 1946.He began his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964. He continued on in his training with Bill Woodward at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. In order to receive a bacalaureate degree he transferred to George Washington University, where he studied Drawing and Printmaking with Frank Wright. He was granted a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts in 1970.After a brief period of training with Phillip Pearlstein in Massachusetts, he returned to George Washington University where he again studied with William Woodward and Arthur Hall Smith. He was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting in 1976.

The Regency Gallery, Washington ,D.C.; Mickelson’s Bill Parker Gallery, Washington, D.C.;

New England Kitchen Window

 

Description

This was my mother's kitchen in Massachusetts. The lilacs were in bloom when we visited her on Mother's Day a few years ago. We brought her an avocado from California and a fuchsia plant.

Mary Helmreich California Watercolors
Her Specialty: Paintings on Commission. Over the last thirty years she's done hundreds: Of houses, cars, boats, pets & people, etc. Also favorite views & personal subjects.

Mary Helmreich was born in 1945 near Boston, Massachusetts.
Her talent was recognized early, when at age nine she won a prize for portraiture, competing against high school students.
At twelve she attended a summer art program at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. In the eleventh grade she studied under Sidney Hurwitz at the De Cordova Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and at the Cummington School of the Arts in the Berkshires.
At Bard College New York from 1963-1964 she majored in Sculpture taught by Harvey Fite and Fine Art by Anton Refregier. She continued her studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston from 1964-1965 under the tutelage of Robert Grady and Andreas Feininger.
Toward the end of 1965 she traveled to London and Paris, where she met Gisbert Helmreich at a youth hostel in Place Pigalle. Together they hitchhiked through Europe, North Africa and East Africa. They were married in October 1966 in Burlington, Vermont.
Their son Stefan Helmreich and his wife Heather Paxson are both anthropologists at MIT.
From 1966 until the summer of 1981 they made their home in Boston, with a short sojourn to Vienna in 1968.
For many years Mary concentrated on the human form, drawing from life, first with a Boston group and then with the Winchester Studio Guild, assisted by professor emeritus King Coffin.
In 1969 her husband opened the Boston Chess Studio on Newbury Street, which became a focal point for the chess community during the Bobby Fischer era. Newbury Street, being the center of the New England art scene, inspired Mary to display her pencil drawings, acrylics and watercolor paintings.
After an exploratory cross-country trip in 1981, she and her family decided to move to San Diego, where they established residence in the community of Olivenhain in Encinitas. By that time watercolor had become her favorite medium.
She has been a member of several art organizations and has entered juried art shows receiving many awards & prizes.
Mary now paints cityscapes, landscapes, historical buildings and more intimate views of the area. All her paintings, including commissions, are carried out in the representational manner, using archival materials.
