A group of protestors watch as a statue of a Confederate soldier is toppled.The Durham monument was dedicated in 1924 "in memory of the boys who wore the gray." Efforts to erect it were led by the R.F. Webb Camp of United Confederate Veterans and the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

David Zimmerman was born in Washington, D.C. in 1946.He began his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964. He continued on in his training with Bill Woodward at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. In order to receive a bacalaureate degree he transferred to George Washington University, where he studied Drawing and Printmaking with Frank Wright. He was granted a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts in 1970.After a brief period of training with Phillip Pearlstein in Massachusetts, he returned to George Washington University where he again studied with William Woodward and Arthur Hall Smith. He was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting in 1976.

Eyecentennial

 

Description

The EyeCentennial project is an exploration of our relationship to light and our response to recognizable themes in nature. Each of the 100 pieces is different, refracting color and form in ways mimicking animal and insect eyes. Elements of science fiction aliens and War of the Worlds space vehicles are also themes recurring in several of the pieces.

Each EyeCentennial makes use of either a Westinghouse or General Electric street light lens, known as a cobra head drop lens. Greater than half a billion of these domes were put into service in the Americas — all of them destined to be taken down and replaced with LED fixtures.

In association with the North Carolina Museum of Art and Kane Realty Group, 60 of the 100 Eyecentennials are the inaugural featured artwork for the new Bank of America building's Art Box on Six Forks Road. After spending a year as Art Box tenants, the EyeCentennials will be offered for sale companioned with a vibrant coffee table book where a whole new, indiv

David Zimmerman was born in Washington, D.C. in 1946.He began his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964. He continued on in his training with Bill Woodward at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. In order to receive a bacalaureate degree he transferred to George Washington University, where he studied Drawing and Printmaking with Frank Wright. He was granted a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts in 1970.After a brief period of training with Phillip Pearlstein in Massachusetts, he returned to George Washington University where he again studied with William Woodward and Arthur Hall Smith. He was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting in 1976.

David has had 35 one man shows at Veerhoff Galleries, Washington, D.C.;
The Regency Gallery, Washington ,D.C.; Mickelson’s Bill Parker Gallery, Washington, D.C.;

Moulin Rouge

 

Description

Moulin Rouge (the Red Mill) Moulin Rouge is a cabaret in Paris, on Boulevard de Clichy, at Place Blanche, the intersection of, and terminus of Rue Blanche. In 1889, the Moulin Rouge was co-founded by Charles Zidler and Joseph Oller, who also owned the Paris Olympia. The original venue was destroyed by fire in 1915.

After the opening night, the Moulin Rouge quickly became synonymous with the energetic and provocative dance style known as the French Cancan. The vibrancy of high kicks and ruffled skirts became the cadence by which the cabaret built its fame, and a true symbol of the Moulin Rouge thanks to Toulouse-Lautrec's posters.

Minion's Minyan

 

Description

A Minyan is a quorum of ten men (or in some synagogues, men and women) over the age of 13 required for traditional Jewish public worship.The word Minyan literally translate as "number or count". I had trouble getting past the word "Minion"without thinking of the more traditional meaning in Judaism, for some reason.

David Zimmerman was born in Washington, D.C. in 1946.He began his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964. He continued on in his training with Bill Woodward at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. In order to receive a bacalaureate degree he transferred to George Washington University, where he studied Drawing and Printmaking with Frank Wright. He was granted a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts in 1970.After a brief period of training with Phillip Pearlstein in Massachusetts, he returned to George Washington University where he again studied with William Woodward and Arthur Hall Smith. He was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting in 1976.

David has had 35 one man shows at Veerhoff Galleries, Washington, D.C.;
The Regency Gallery, Washington ,D.C.; Mickelson’s Bill Parker Gallery, Washington, D.C.;
Gallery West, Alexandria, Virginia; The Potomac Gallery, Alexandria,Virginia; The National Park Service in Washington and Virginia; Crestar Bank; Montgomery Cable; Picolo’s; erl Originals, and others, as well as over 100 group shows in the past years He has been selected Artist in Residence for the National Park Service and his work has appeared on NBC television, in addition to other local programming in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
