Artist Statement
I am fascinated by the color, light patterns, and variety found in nature–particularly with respect to water lilies. One can spend a life time and never come close to capturing the beauty and tranquility found in the natural world. I feel blessed to have the time to look so deeply into the life around me and hope to share that feeling with you through my paintings.

Sharon Park 1 - nova

Sharon Park 1 - nova

The Sharon Park offers hiking routes between green spaces, trees and thick vegetation, and plenty of birds and blossoms. In winter and spring you can enjoy spectacular flowering carpets without traveling far from home.
The landscapes of the Sharon Park are varied and in some of them commemorate the early days of settlement in Hadera, such as the eucalyptus forest, planted here in 1898, in an attempt to dry the swamps. The main area of the park preserves the open landscape of a forest park with remnants of the Tabor oak forest, carob trees and goddesses. This area, located to the south and west of the Hadera forest, constitutes the last remnant of the oaks that once extended throughout the Sharon region. In the park you can enjoy grassy grasslands that develop in the trees after the rains and are decorated with a colorful and beautiful flowering of anemones, irises, cyclamens and many other species, some rare and endangered.

Maryland native, Janis Ilene Grau, has been working in watercolor for about twenty-five years. She was a middle school art teacher for thirty-five years, retiring to sunny Florida in 2010. In 1966 she earned a BFA degree from the Maryland Institute, College of Art. She has pursued course work at Towson University and various workshops earning credits in education and art that are equivalent to a Master’s plus 30. She lived and taught school for many years in Baltimore and on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Janis maintains a home and studio in Ft. Myers, Florida. She finds numerous subjects for her watercolors from the natural settings in both of these coastal areas.
She paints flowers; primarily, but also loves still life and landscape subject matter. Her love for the medium of watercolor grew from an early age when her high school art teacher, Jim Laubheimer, would require a weekly watercolor as homework. “He would send the class to paint “en pleine air” regardless of the weather. I can remember one winter day trying to paint the Baltimore skyline from Federal Hill, when the air was so cold that our washes turned to ice on the paper.” From this early discipline in the medium grew her expertise in technique, a keen sense of color and a desire to capture the fleetingness of nature in some permanent way.
Janis is a member of the Alliance for the Arts in Ft. Myers, Florida. Her work has been displayed at various venues on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, at the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts in Tampa, Florida, at the Naples Fine Art & Craft Festival, at Art Fest Ft. Myers, at the Sanibel Art Fest and online at the American Juried Art Salon, Fine Art America and the Contemporary Art Gallery Online. Additionally, she was the t-shirt design artist for the Ft. Myers Reading Festival in 2015; as well as one of 40 artists who painted poly-resin seahorses that were auctioned to raise money for the building fund for The Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. Her finished seahorse can be seen here:

Her work may be viewed by appointment at her studio in Ft. Myers, Florida.

"I am following Nature without being able to grasp her…I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers." …Claude Monet

Greetings and Welcome to the SUNDBERG – REGELMAN GALLERY!

This GALLERY is the result of two ARTIST's lifetimes. Those were my parents;
CARL SUNDBERG and WILDA REGELMAN. Once they were married back in 1950 she went by WILDA SUNDBERG. They painted their entire lives! They were dedicated artists and both were in National Art Shows winning prizes, doing commissions, and selling their art. WILDA was a Watercolorist and CARL was a Painter and Graphic Designer who worked with Porcelain Enamel on Steel and screen printed images.

This SUNDBERG – REGELMAN GALLERY is comprised exclusively of their art that remained in their possession at their home in ERIE, PA. I went thru their collection to photograph the art and record all the attributes. They were really bad on dating their art and I presume that is because many art shows require the art be within the last year and from recent production. Ironically they never submitted older artwork anyway and that was likely a retained habit from their art school days. Anyway … WILDA’s collection was over 700 works

Animals play a very important role in my life so I often paint different animals with a woman portrait. It can be seen simbolical as well just like the mirror of my life. We all have a part that connects deeply to the nature and to the animal world. As animals play an important role in my life, I will donate 5% of the price of the sold picture to the animal welfare organisation of the buyer's choice to support their work. Holewinski

Holewinski

I joined the US Army in 1967 and while stationed in Korea I started painting during the evenings and on weekends as a way to pass the time.  Most of the paintings were detailed studies of the Disney animated features.  It was after I got out of the army that I became fascinated by the paintings of Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso, and Whistler.

While living in Washington DC, I spent most weekends painting out in the Maryland and Virginia countryside.  I would drive along small sometimes dirt roads until I came across the subject of my next painting.  Parking my car on the side of the road, I placed my canvas flat on the hood of my car and began painting.

Soon after that period I was married and had two daughters. I realized that I needed to find a more reliable career which led to my working as a creative product and package designer for Johnson & Johnson, and then, 15 years later, with The Walt Disney Company as a Product Design Manager.  Working for Disney was a dream come true for me, something I had wanted to do ever since since I was five years old.  During my years with Disney I worked on many exciting projects and can look back fondly on my time with Disney.

My paintings cover a broad range of styles and techniques, with my preferred medium being oil on heavy watercolor paper.  Using paper rather than traditional canvas allows the paint to set and dry quicker, allowing for a faster painting and for paint 'drag' to occur.  Brush strokes become more visible which is an important element in most of my paintings.  After the painting is dry and varnished, I mount the painting on cradled birch plywood.

My artwork has been exhibited in galleries and art museums in Florida, Maryland, Virginia, and New Jersey. And I continue to do character paintings for The Walt Disney Company.
